New York does not require CGFNS certification as a minimum requirement; however, it is beneficial if a candidate is certified because that candidate will qualify for a temporary or limited permit. The limited permit allows the nurse to come to the U.S. and practice for up to a year.  The NCLEX needed for regular licensure can be taken after arrival in the U.S.
